JJ Green Night Market

JJ Green Night Market might just be the coolest place to shop in Bangkok, with its much more chilled-out, bohemian vibes when compared to the capital’s gargantuan Chatuchak Weekend Market just down the road. Part vintage flea market, part local drinking hangout, JJ Green is best visited on Thursday to Sunday evening, from 17:00 to 24:00, although many bars here keeps going until after midnight on Saturday and Sunday night, when the market is at its busiest.

JJ Green comprises a mix of permanently built shops and bars, whilst local peddlers lay-out their merchandise on makeshift stalls or just spread it over the floor in the large car park at the back. Anybody who enjoys Chatuchak Market’s vintage zone will be right at home here; many of the shops specialize in cheap, secondhand clothes and there’s lots of stalls selling genuine retro items such as vinyl CDs, old car models, artwork, antiques and collectables.
Head further into the car park at the back to find more of a car-boot sale kind of scene, with open vans and cars displaying everything from vintage watches, retro cameras and phones, worn advertising and branded posters, musical instruments and biker-gear. As with any Thai night market, bargaining down the price a little bit is acceptable, although prices here seem to be pretty cheap to start with, so don’t expect much off. Whilst the shopping scene here is definitely worth checking out, Bangkok has seen a recent boom in vintage night markets, with two ‘rod fai’ markets (at Srinakarin and Rachada) as well as a handful of other flea markets popping up over the suburbs. What really sets JJ Green apart from the rest,
however, is its buzzing nightlife scene. Young locals, many of whom are coming straight from the adjacent Chatuchak Market down the road, fill up the range of bars here from around 18:00 on the weekend, and many venues keep going until as late as 02:00. Top
watering holes to look out for at JJ Green include Stair by Me (which has a nice breezy rooftop and live band), the sophisticated Clock Tower (two floors, live band, cheap beer but a bit hot) and the kaleidoscope of colours and vintage furniture at Khao Khong, found right in the center. Finding JJ Green is easy – as long as you don’t mistake it for the larger and more famous Chatuchak Weekend Market which is on the same road. Get off the BTS at Mo Chit or the MRT at Chatuchak and walk up Kamphaeng Phet Road. The market is located inside the park – just look for the large ‘Jatujak Green’ sign or ask a local for directions.  JJ Green Market Opening Hours: Thurs - Sun 17:00 – 02:00 MRT: Chatuchak BTS: Mo Chit Address: 1 Kamphaeng Phet 3, Chatuchak, Bangkok Hide Map JJ Green
